Resources to help Inspire the Natural Family...
MilkWorks
MilkWorks is a non-profit breastfeeding center designed to help mothers have a positive breastfeeding experience. The founders were all mothers, who were concerned about the lack of support services for breastfeeding women in the Lincoln community.
La Leche League International
circle Me promotes the La Leche League philosophy. It is:
-
Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby.
-
Mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply.
-
In the early years the baby has an intense need to be with his mother which is as basic as his need for food.
-
Breast milk is the superior infant food.
-
For the healthy, full-term baby, breast milk is the only food necessary until the baby shows signs of needing solids, about the middle of the first year after birth.
-
Ideally the breastfeeding relationship will continue until the baby outgrows the need.
-
Alert and active participation by the mother in childbirth is a help in getting breastfeeding off to a good start.
-
Breastfeeding is enhanced and the nursing couple sustained by the loving support, help, and companionship of the baby's father. A father's unique relationship with his baby is an important element in the child's development from early infancy.
-
Good nutrition means eating a well-balanced and varied diet of foods in as close to their natural state as possible.
-
From infancy on, children need loving guidance which reflects acceptance of their capabilities and sensitivity to their feelings.

NE Friends of MidwivesNebraska Friends of Midwives is a consumer-based organization seeking to raise public awareness of the benefits and advantages of employing midwives, both independent Midwives and Certified Nurse-Midwives, through public education efforts. We are working to help facilitate a change in the laws of Nebraska to allow midwives to practice more openly and with greater independence. We support the right of women to make an educated decision about where and with whom she will give birth.
Brio Birth
What is the difference between Brio and other types of childbirth classes? Brio is unique. Our classes stress the importance of Healthy Baby, Healthy Mother and Healthy Families. We attract families who are willing to take the responsibility needed for preparation and birth.
Natural childbirth is an important goal since most people want to give their babies every possible advantage. Without the side effects of drugs given during labor and birth. Brio classes teach families how to have natural births. The techniques are simple and effective. They are based on information about how the human body works during labor. Couples are taught how they can work with their bodies to reduce pain and make their labors more efficient.

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period. Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeeding more easily.
A Doula/Childbirth Educator:

- Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
- Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth
- Stays with the woman throughout the labor
- Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decision
- Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers
- Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman's memory of the birth experience
- Allows the woman's partner to participate at his/her comfort level

It is important to become informed and knowledgeable about some of the main concerns you may have. The reasons people decide to educate their children at home are varied and can be unique to each family. Some look towards a better educational experience, others are concerned with moral and social issues, some are concerned with safety, and still others have special needs that they wish to address.
